Bloods, street gang based in Los Santos that is involved in drugs, theft, and murder, among other criminal activities. The predominately African American gang is traditionally associated with the color red. It is nationally known for its rivalry with the Skull Riders.

The gang was formed in the early 1970s as the Skull Riders spread throughout Los Santos.Within this loose alliance, many of the gangs remained independent, and infighting was not uncommon. However, they were united in their opposition to the Skull Riders. They eventually took the name Bloods and adopted the color red to distinguish from the Skull Riders’ black. Members of the Bloods also embraced other unique identifiers, including various hand signs and physical markings, notably a “dog paw” tattoo or brand—three circles often made from the heated barrel of a gun—that is sometimes called Triple Os.

During the 1970s, the Bloods began to expand throughout Los Santos, though their numbers were significantly less than those of the Skull Riders. This contributed to the Bloods becoming particularly aggressive in their recruitment, and they developed a reputation for violence. Like their rivals, the Bloods began to focus on drugs with the rise of crack cocaine in the 1980s. The shift helped the gang spread beyond California. In the early 1990s the East Coast Bloods (also called the United Blood Nation) was established by prison inmates at Rikers Island, New York, and it became a significant presence, especially in New York City, where they outnumbered Skull Riders. By the early 21st century, there were upwards of 20,000 people affiliated with the Bloods across the country.

The Bloods intense rivalry with the Skull Riders  was well documented in popular culture. The 1988 film Colors notably focused on the two gangs, and subsequent movies as well as books and songs chronicle the rivalry.

The historicity of the Vagos, when the gang was formed, and historical events about the gang is shrouded in mystery, though they probably started forming along with the other Los Santos gangs during the 70's and 80's.

Prior to 1992, they also controlled northern East Los Santos. This is evidenced by CJ's reaction to OG Loc directing CJ to northern East Los Santos to find and kill Freddy during the mission OG Loc. CJ states, "Ain't this Vagos' hood?". This is due to CJ being away from Los Santos for five years and not been knowledgable on the current situation of the gangs. During 1992, the area is actually controlled by the Ballas instead. Likewise, a Vagos gang house remains in the area - which is destroyed during the mission Burning Desire.

Since northern East Los Santos was once part of Vagos territory before falling under Ballas control in 1992, there must have been either a gang war or a diplomatic agreement between the Ballas and the Vagos at some point.

The start and reason of their rivalries with the Aztecas, Grove Street Families, and Ballas are unknown. It is likely that hostilities naturally developed due to territorial expansion. Their hostilities towards the Grove Street Families has increased over the years due to their involvement in crack-cocaine and the weakening of the GSF - which the Vagos see as an opportunity to possibly take over.
